Postby admin » Fri Mar 08, 2013 1:35 pm

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife’s (CDFW) Advanced Hunter Education Program has opened registration for its upcoming Wilderness First Aid Clinic in Los Angeles County.

The clinic, which is jointly sponsored by the Hunter Education Instructor Association of Southern California, will be held on Saturday, March 16 in Palmdale.

Led by Alex Van, a 30-year veteran firefighter/paramedic, the clinic will include hands-on training designed to meet the needs of outdoor enthusiasts and individuals hunting in remote locations. Topics will include treatment of cuts, broken bones, burns and gunshot wounds, as well as the essentials of a first aid kit and basic survival equipment. At the end of the course, participants will have the knowledge, skills and ability to make sound decisions in wilderness emergency situations.

The clinic runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost is $45 for adults. Youths 16 years and younger are free but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Space is limited, so advance online registration is required. Registration forms are available online at www.dfg.ca.gov/huntered/advanced/index.aspx.

CDFW’s Advanced Hunter Education Program will provide all necessary class equipment. Registered participants will receive an e-mail with a map to the facility and a list of items to bring.

Palmdale is located approximately 64 miles northeast of Los Angeles.
